I finished the other side of the snow dome. The first side has a house and Christmas tree, the second a little snowman. The first photo shows him before going into the dome. The pom pom on his hat isn’t very clear. The way the water magnifies the image is something I will have to work on. I thought I made him small enough that the magnifying effect would be fine, but it is not quite.
The windows have been decorated at Can Do Books. It was a lovely sunny day here yesterday which isn’t helpful for taking photos through windows, so I will go back on a cloudier day and at night and take more photos.
In the left window is an advent calendar. At the moment they are a little strange and sort of like a butcher shop, once Stephanie removes the peg and wrapping, the window should be cheery, fun and Christmassy.
In the right window is a very large wreath and three hippos on wrapped ball baubles. The base of the wreath are Hoola Hoops, so you get an idea of the size. I have attached all those little green animals, birds, houses, wrapped balls and pom poms that I have been making. It is a little bit of an I Spy game, find 4 mice, 3 dogs, 6 owls………..
The hippos on wrapped balls are from the book Edward’s Menagerie by Kerry Lord. These were the first things I made and they make me smile whenever I look at them. Two are very happy to be dancing on the balls and one is very scared.
And the last little green hippo I made is sitting on the table underneath the wreath with some books, pom poms and wrapped balls.
I had a lot of fun making everything. I will show the advent calendar reveals each day, but it will be the next day, so I will show the 1st on the 2nd, 2nd on the 3rd and so on.
I don’t think I have shown this snowman before. He was the first wrapped ball snowman I made. To get him to stand I wrapped the ball in wool then attached a very large washer with buttonhole stitch. I didn’t like the finished result because the roundness of the ball was lost. His hat has plastic at the core to keep it’s shape. He is about 15cm tall.
There are two wreaths in the Christmas Decorations at Can Do Books, a red one and a blue one. They are similar but different, both have houses, plain wrapped balls and little trees. The red one has little snowmen and the blue has embroidered temari balls.
The red wreath is in the window at the far right as you look in the shop, the blue one is inside the store, behind the existing window display.
The big Christmas project I have been working on is decorating the window of Can Do Books in Hawthorn. I can now reveal the details and share in my excitement. I am heading over there today to decorate the window with little houses and a couple of wreaths. Thank you Stephanie, owner of Can Do Books, for allowing me to be part of her shop’s Christmas festivities.
I have been showing little snippets of what I have been working on. I am so excited to work on the window. I will update later with some photos of the window when complete.
